SUMMARY:175th Public Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Rancho’s 175th anniversary with food\, music\, art\, and more. The ceremony will include a Brewery Knolls beer garden featuring Liberation Brewing\, food vendors\, a 175th birthday cake-cutting ceremony led by special guest\, Eighth District Councilmember Al Austin\, music by Long Beach Poly High School Jazz Combo and Bernie Pearl Blues Band\, a live painting of the adobe home by Copeland Holt\, tours of the house\, and an art contest. \nGuests arriving in the 10 o’clock hour can help cheer participants as they arrive at the site upon completion of the 2nd Annual Ranchos Walk (event sponsored by the City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability). \nMy Long Beach Art Contest \nThe Rancho’s 175th art contest is currently accepting entries that fit the theme “My Long Beach” in 2D\, 3D\, photography and video mediums. Free to enter; open to all current K-12 students. To submit for consideration\, please submit your entry as instructed below\, or email a photo / e-file of your artwork to RLCartcontest175@gmail.com.  Winners will be announced at the celebration. SUMMARY:Long Beach Book Clubs Celebrate RLC175 FREE
DESCRIPTION:To finish Rancho Los Cerritos’ 175th Celebration on a high note the Long Beach Book Clubs Project is inviting all members of Long Beach book clubs to discuss Adobe Days by Sarah Bixby Smith in the first-ever gathering of Long Beach based book clubs. \nMore than 130 book clubs have already signed on to the Book Club Project. If you have a book club please contact the Long Beach Book Clubs Project at lbbookclubs@aol.com \nCome at 4:00 pm to enjoy the festivities and tour the historic adobe house. The house will be open for self-guided tours until 5:00 pm. \nBring your picnic blanket and BYO picnic to set-up summer concert style in the backyard. \nThe program officially begins at 5:00 pm with opening remarks from Executive Director of the Rancho Los Cerritos Foundation\, Alison Bruesehoff. There will be an introduction to the Long Beach Book Clubs Project\, which leads into an academic discussion of Adobe Days\, followed by a Q&A portion. \nWe encourage all book clubs to come decked out in their book club flair. \nWhere to get Adobe Days: \nThe RLC Museum Shop (open Wed.-Sun. 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm) \nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour copy of Adobe Days\nA hat and sunscreen\nPicnic dinner\, blankets\, baskets\, and lawn chairs are acceptable*\n\n*Please note that this event will be held outside in the historic backyard where there is limited shade. \nClick here for Parking and Directions \nLimited FREE parking is available in the lot across from RLC’s entry gates.
