SUMMARY:Gardening Lecture by Erin Johnson
DESCRIPTION:This two-part lecture is part of a collaboration with the Theodore Payne Foundation. \nPart 1: The Power of Plants: Growing a Sustainable Future \nPart 2: Right Plant\, Right Place \nInstructor: Erin Johnson\n \nJoin us for a special introduction to Calfornia native plants co-hosted by Theodore Payne Foundation and Rancho Los Cerritos. The program will consist of two presentations with a break in between. \nDescription\nThe Power of Plants: Growing a Sustainable Future\nThis lecture illustrates the beauty and ecological benefits of California’s native wild flowers and plants. Discover the diversity of California’s native flora and how its use in urban landscapes reduces pesticides\, conserves water\, and transforms sterile spaces into thriving habitats that support birds\, butterflies\, pollinators\, and the well-being of all our communities. \nRight Plant\, Right Place\nKnowing native habitats can help you choose the right plants for your place. This course discusses local plant communities and their conditions\, as well as how to assess the conditions of your garden site\, including climate\, soil\, sunlight and space. A valuable class for beginners and the prerequisite for Theodore Payne Foundation’s Three-Part Native Garden Design Course. \nParking\nThe parking lot is located before the main entrance to your right. A limited number of accessible parking spaces are available on site after you drive through the main entrance gates on the left- and right-hand side. We will do our best to ensure everyone with a DP placard gets an accessible spot. If spaces are full you will be able to drop members of your party off at the top of the path and park in the lower lot. \nTickets\n$35 per person\, $25 for members \nTicket link:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/power-of-plants-right-plant-right-place-with-erin-johnson-registration-86741633561 \nHave questions about Theodore Payne and Ralph Cornell: Champions of California’s Native Plants? Contact Theodore Payne Foundation \nErin Johnson is the Outreach Manager at Theodore Payne Foundation\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the understanding\, preservation\, and use of California native wild flowers and plants. Before joining the Foundation\, she worked in the field of audience research and evaluation\, studying public engagement with science at various institutions\, including the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo Headquarters\, the Shedd Aquarium\, and the Institute for Learning Innovation. By sharing the natural wonders of California\, Erin hopes to inspire communities across Los Angeles to celebrate and grow California native plants.
