Bird Walk
September 12, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am

Stroll through the grounds of the historic rancho and watch both resident birds and seasonal migrants. Participants will also listen to calls and songs and potentially observe other specific seasonal behaviors.
As summer turns to fall, our resident fledglings are being cut off from parental feeding, much to their dismay. As a result, we often hear lots of chatter from the young birds that are now charged with learning to hunt for themselves.
The young dark-eyed juncos have fledged! They call to one another as they forage for seeds or small insects on the ground or in the shrubbery. We appear to have two family groups currently residing at RLC, and both have youngsters that are continuing to develop. The junco pictured here is self-feeding, but it has yet to develop the dark hood over its head that the parents sport.
Meet in the lower parking lot at 8 a.m. sharp. Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and bring a hat and binoculars, if you have them. We also have a limited number of binoculars to lend, thanks to the generosity of Vortex Optics.
Free and open to all. Rain cancels.
